Central Coast Asbestos Disposal
Bonded asbestos is in a form where asbestos fibres are held within another material (for example cement) but does not include friable asbestos. When dry, bonded asbestos materials cannot be crumbled, pulverised or reduced to powder by hand pressure.
Friable Asbestos is asbestos (whether or not contained in other material) that (a) is crumbly, dusty or powdery; or (b) when dry, can be crumbled, pulverised or reduced to powder by hand pressure. Examples of friable asbestos include, sprayed asbestos coating or insulation, asbestos lagging, loose asbestos and asbestos in its raw form.
Can I remove asbestos from my home myself?
Legally you are entitled to remove asbestos from your household if you follow certain guidelines, however it is strongly recommended that you contact a local asbestos removal specialist. If you wish to remove friable asbestos from your house you are limited to 10 square metres or 100 kilograms. Waste must be stored in and transported in an environmentally safe manner including wetting down and covering with plastic. Proper protective clothing and equipment must also be utilised as serious penalties for breaking the law apply. You must then seek out an acceptable facility that will accept your waste. It is for all of these reasons, safer for everyone that you contact a professional asbestos removal contractor. Central Coast Council are very strict on self removal of asbestos in your home and large penalties apply due to the high risks of unauthorised removal or disposal of all forms of asbestos.
